Dr. Pui Man Chan’s Profile
In June 2009, as Music Project Manager, Dr. Pui Man Chan joined the Satit Bilingual School of Rangsit University where she oversees the entire music program and is in the process of instilling a new music track (opening in the year 2010). Teaching has always been one of her main focuses.
Prior to her appointment at SBS, Dr. Chan served as the coordinator of the piano performance program in Assumption University’s School of Music and as the coordinator of the piano pedagogy program in Mahidol University, where she initiated the creation of an ideal keyboard laboratory for group piano classes—the first of its kind in Thailand.
While in the USA, she served on the faculties of Adams State College in Colorado and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. At the University of Miami, she instructed the preparatory group piano program, Keyboard for Kids, which serves over 100 pre-college students in Coral Gables, Florida.
Dr. Chan received the degrees of Doctor of Musical Arts in Keyboard Performance and Pedagogy and a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Miami, Florida. In addition, she earned a second Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from Northwestern University, Illinois. She received several awards while her studied at the University of Miami, and graduated with “summa cum laude."
Dr. Chan’s piano foundation was laid out in Japan. In the US, she studied piano with Dr. J. Robert Floyd and Dr. Rosalina G. Sackstien. Dr. Chan received significant musical influence from Dr. Sackstien who was a pupil of Claudio Arrau. Being a pedagogy student of a leading co-author of adult group piano instructional books, Dr. Kenon D. Renfrow, she has been commended for excellence in teaching and known for her expertise in developing materials for class piano instruction. |
